New look for EDO KIRIKO

Design

Edo Kiriko features a variety of traditional patterns that utilize the reflections and refractions of glass to create stunning and captivating expressions. To introduce a new approach to showcasing cut glass, this design incorporates the moiré phenomenon created by layering faceted glass, as well as the ability to view the three-dimensional effect of the faceted cut surface from the side.

Inspiration

I wanted to incorporate the moiré phenomenon, which occurs when patterns overlap, into Edo Kiriko. Additionally, I focused on highlighting the beauty of the cut shapes in Edo Kiriko.

Research

In researching the Edo Kiriko technique, I focused on the concepts of "cut" and "flat" and began designing a paperweight that incorporates these two elements. Next, I tested multiple condition settings to integrate the moiré phenomenon created by the Edo Kiriko pattern and designed a moiré paperweight.
